I had the great pleasure of venturing up to NYC Sunday to see Junior Mance at a jazz brunch at the Blue Note in Greenwich Village. He is one of the finest jazz pianists and one whose work I've come to admire a great deal.
When I told him I was very much in love with his work and it was a pleasure to finally hear him play, his face lit up. He indulged me with a photo :) It was absolute heaven to hear him play "For Dancers Only" I LOVE his version of that song.
Check out http://wsdc.blogspot.com/ for videos that I posted of the performance.
After the show we ventured out with Phil's friend Pat, a native New Yorker, for some beer at the Blind Tiger Ale House on Bleecker St. I had a fabulous beer called Schneider Weisse, a really awesome hefeweissen, or wheat beer for the non-beer drinkers among you.
Afterwards, we went across the street for some pizza at John's Pizzeria. Awesome NY style pizza. Thanks, Pat!
